the story behind the ROOT method

If you don't know me, I’m Gavin Scribellito. Coach, educator, and founder of The ROOT Method.

I did not start this because I had some magical genetics or because fitness was always easy for me. I started this because I know what it feels like to look in the mirror and feel uncomfortable in your own body.

I began my journey about 40 pounds overweight. I felt stuck. I felt embarrassed. I felt like I was constantly thinking about food and my body, even when I was pretending I was fine. And I believed the same thing most people believe - if I just find the perfect plan, I will finally fix it.

So I chased it.

For years, I lived in extremes. I would lock in hard. I would follow strict rules. I would avoid foods I liked because I thought enjoying food was the reason I was stuck. I would train harder because I thought effort was the only answer.

I was disciplined, but I was not healthy. And my body started to show me the truth...

The bloating became constant. My energy crashed. My mood and focus felt off. I felt tired in a way sleep did not fix. Food started feeling like punishment instead of nourishment.

The worst part was the mental noise. The constant second guessing. The guilt after eating. The pressure to be perfect. The fear that one meal could ruin everything. From the outside, it looked like I was “into fitness.”
 Inside, it felt like I was trapped.

That was the moment I stopped asking, “How do I diet harder?” and started asking, “Why am I stuck in the first place?”

That question changed everything.

I learned that most people do not fail because they lack discipline. They fail because their approach is fighting their physiology and reinforcing the same mindset patterns.
